HughesNet Satellite Internet, known formerly as DirecWay Satellite, provides high speed satellite internet service to ANY home or business in the contiguous USA with a clear line of sight to the southern sky. Hughes Net currently serves over 300,000 broadband customers in about 26,000 zip codes. In the first six months of 2006 the company added over 10,000 new subscribers a month, all of whom have access to a superior email system, a personalized start page, and easy access customer support.

How does it work?

HughesNet delivers high speed internet by satellite — not over your telephone line — so you can surf and talk at the same time. A certified HughesNet installer will connect your computer to a satellite modem and link it to a satellite dish (antenna) that's typically mounted on the roof of your home. The satellite dish sends and receives information (i.e., email, Web pages, files) over the Internet and instantly delivers it your computer.

Why shoud I get satellite internet

If you are frustrated with the speed of dial up and you are NOT able to get DSL or cable internet in your area then you should consider broadband satellite internet service. With satellite internet access you get an ‘always on’ dedicated connection which means no logging in, no dialing in, no waiting and no tied-up phone lines.

Is satellite internet service faster?

It's relative. Satellite internet access is about 25-30 times faster than normal dial up but slower than most DSL services and slower yet than ALL cable internet services.

Do I need a telephone or dial up modem?

No. No phone line and/or dialup modem is required for normal operation of a two-way satellite internet system.

What if DSL or cable service is available?

If DSL or cable is available in your area then we recommend you choose either of these high speed options before considering satellite internet service. There are a number of reasons: monthly cost (satellite internet is about twice as expensive), download speed, and additional equipment required. The truth of the matter is that most people who get satellite internet service do so because it is the only way to get high speed internet access in their area.
